Meet the Gallery
Well, first post of the summer… here it is. I am so excited to share this wonderful opportunity with you and keep a log of everything that will be happening this summer. I have been so blessed by this entire experience and cannot thank everyone enough for the support, love, and help you have all given me. Here is some information on where I will be and what I will be doing for the next few months.
This summer I have been invited to intern at the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York City. I will be there from June 18th till August 24th, living, breathing, and soaking up as much of the city and lifestyle as possible. Working as everything from secretary to artist’s assistant, I’m sure I will get to know the city well and hopefully cultivate a professional and friendly relationship with those I will be working with. The Marian Goodman Gallery, located in upper Manhattan, is home to artists such as Gerhard Richter, Jeff Wall, and Christian Boltanski. It was started in the 70’s by owner, Marian Goodman after she found some very deserving German artists who needed to be seen in New York. Ms. Goodman is highly respected and loved by her artists, and is described as “handling being tough the sweetest way I’ve ever seen.” I cannot wait to meet her.
“Goodman, whose voice never rises above a near whisper—the kind that commands others to bend in close and pay attention—is speaking lovingly of her artists, who tend to speak the same way of her.”
I haven’t been to the gallery yet myself, but Belcove, a writer for WMagazine compliments it’s founder as being, “Tiny in stature but with a commanding presence in the art world. Gallerist Marian Goodman has assembled perhaps the most enviable stable of artists in the business.” By Julie L. Belcove
